Weddings
and Civil Unions

As a ministry to the community, Grace Church offers its facilities and clergy for Episcopal weddings, interfaith weddings, non-denominational weddings, holy unions, civil unions, and civic ceremonies.

Facilities

Grace Place’s unique circular loft sanctuary makes for an intimate wedding experience, and the reception hall can accommodate groups for stand-up receptions or sit-down meals. The sanctuary can seat up to 125 people, while the main hall (40’x40′) and can accommodate up to 100 people for a standing reception and 80 people for a sit down meal.

For the comfort and convenience of your guests, Grace’s building complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act and is handicapped accessible. All floors are also air conditioned in the summer months.

Planning Your Ceremony
Grace Church understands that each couple is unique and has its own needs and desires for their ceremony. As a result, we keep requirements to a minimum. We’re overjoyed to host your ceremony, and will support you in any way you need.

We do not require that the couple be members of this parish, though we certainly extend our invitation to join us for worship if you do not already have a church home.

You are welcome to bring your own clergy persons, or other persons authorized by the State of Illinois to solemnize weddings and civil unions. If you would like Grace Church’s clergy to officiate, your wedding becomes Holy Matrimony and your civil union becomes Holy Union. (A liturgy from the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago for Holy Union ceremonies is here). Some conditions apply:

  • One person in the marriage or union must be a baptized Christian
  • The couple must receive pre-marital / pre-union counseling before the ceremony date. This can be done in several ways (e.g. with Grace’s clergy, with other clergy who would agree to do this counseling, with a psychological counselor or therapist, with a pre-coupling group experience of some kind, etc).
  • If one of the parties is an Episcopalian, and has been previously married or in a civil union or Holy Union, the Rector may apply to the Bishop of Chicago for permission to perform this ceremony .

You may bring your own music or musician, or use the parish’s musical resources if you wish.

For more information about these options and requirements, you may e-mail the Rector of Grace Church at info@gracechicago.org or include your questions in the comment form below.
